I seldom get all fired up after reading the news.

After all, when we read the I-am-so-rich-I-forgot-what-is-poor comments of our government on an almost daily basis, you'd get desensitized after a while.

But this made my blood boil: http://www.straitstimes.com/Singapore/Story/STIStory_265318.html

One of the Nepalese twins died and now, guess who gets the full shit of the blame? When you get the full glory of it, its inevitable that you'll get the shit too, if things screwed up. But for our doctors to swallow the whole of the bullshit? I don't think so.

True. Singapore, despite 43 years into her independance, is still a wreck when it comes to identity. She wants to be everything - an arts hub, a medical hub, a research hub, a technology hub... but she has forgotten whether or not she is actually CAPABLE of it. Its just like Iris' boss. The dumb butch thinks she's damn good and worthy. When actually, we are all laughing behind her back because of the blatent crap she gives and still has the cheek to be SMUG about it. Bless her deluded soul.

But glory is an irresistable magnet and Singapore, a puny island anxious to make her mark on the world, cannot resist its draws. And so they did it - the operation for one who is neither Singaporean nor rich. An operation which will soon be called a success but to what extent, and at what cost?

The gist of it:

- TOP neurosurgeon who is likely to be in the same country as them would rather push HIS countrymen to Singapore although operation can be done in Nepal.

- Singapore now has to learn how to handle the ugly side of fame & glory.

- Singaporeans are dumb but compassionate. They give up their hard-earned savings to the tune of 660K to some poor fart they don't even know when there is probably a lonely old geezer living next door to them in a roach infested apartment.

Mel's wise ponders:-

It makes me wonder why we bother to do so much bullshit for them when their own people don't seem to give two smelly farts about them. Singapore played her part (it may not be wisest move IMHO), but did their local medical team try their best too? We donated money to fund their medical fees, what did their own people do? Nothing on their side? Not even transport help to the hospital? Are the poor too busy eating feces and the rich too busy eating prata that they cannot help their OWN child? And now when things go wrong, it becomes OUR fault fully and wholly?

Lesson we should learn from this:
Let the poor die. They are wasting our resources anyway.
