We spend a good part of our youth slaving through our education, (which our parents are coincidentally slaving for as well) but have you ever wondered, what the hell for?

From the tender age of four, we leave our weeping mothers to officially learn our ABCs only to contract hand, foot and mouth disease.

At the age of seven, we take on new challenges like how to stash report books away from fuming parents.

By the age of thirteen, we understood that we could set alight our enemies' tresses by means of the trusty bunson burner. Or secretly hope the beautiful and naked blue flame will barbeque the one you hate.

By the age of sixteen, some would probably have taken the liberty to conduct self experiments on the body parts of the opposite sex (or same sex) as described by the science textbooks. Others are probably just waiting for that chance.

And they'd probably get that chance by the time they reach 18.

I met an ex polymate today and as usual got myself a healthy dose of gossip update on the going ons on the cohort whom I have lost touch with (which is almost everyone). According to the data collected, it seems like my ex polymates have a penchant for going into the airline industry as glorified waitress or bankers. And mind you, its related to my course as much as a durian can relate to a rambutan.

Why do we spend so much time, effort and money studying when in the end, we'll probably never step into a relevant industry?

Why should I bother myself to learn history when the only time it was useful was during O levels? When was the last time I spoke a beautiful four letter Chinese word, other than KNNB? How does knowing the formula for calculating velocity help me when i am calculating OT claims? And what of algebra? I deal with real numbers here, thank you very much. No X here or Y there. Come to think of it, maybe I should just submit my accounting report with something like: let the final figure be X.

Oh gee, that will make my life so much easier. Tell me I'm a genius.

So what are we studying for? You gave your soul for the PSLE, O Levels and before you know it, the certs which you have slaved so hard for are only good enough to wipe your ass with.

My point is, other than basic maths and science, why are we spending so much time studying things that are probably not gonna be relevant for the rest of our miserable lives?

If i get the choice to choose the syllabus, it will be:-

- History Customer Service (practical) *to be attached to outlets for 3 mths.*
- Geography Personal Grooming (theory & practical)
- Literature Etiquette (theory & practical)
- Physics Anger Management (theory)
- Chemistry Life Lessons (theory & practical)

Oooh, my school would be so fucking cool! :P

0 spanks on my perky butt.:
