I look at my dog sleeping soundly in various positions at anytime of the day and I wonder...
What's the deal with the saying "its a dog's life?"
Our dear canine friend gets to snooze his day away and his poor owner has to slog like a scavanging mongrel, working 7 days a week, 12 hours each day. His only worry for the day is probably if his owner will be back in time to feed him dinner. Now compare that to mine - too many things, so little time, endless stupid questions and very limited patience.
I'll gladly trade places with my dog.
Aptly, today's lecture was about customer service, how the employees are the perfect brand ambassadors for any company. It was so ideal my eyeballs nearly fell out from rolling back too much.
In the utopian world of textbooks, the employers recognise how important the front line staff are. Thus they are treated well, paid well and trained well. They know that when employees are happy, they can convert all these into providing the best customer satisfaction. And thus, happy employees = happy customers = loyal customers = profit for company = happy employers = happy world, lalala.
In the real world, it probably goes like this:
- Your pay is crap.
- You are expected to serve with a smile. Even though your pay is crap.
- Management treats you like dirt. They expect you to work your ass off for them. Even though the pay is crap.
- Your customers are a bunch of pricks.
- Your pay is crap.
Uber depressing. :(
