I shall be an official blondie... at least until this post finishes.
Everyone is entitled to be whiney and bimboic once in a while in their blogs.
And yes, I am in the mood to gripe.
So here goes.
I never thought myself poor. Sure, I'm not rich enough to strut into a luxury boutique where the sales manager know me by name, and I have a private room all by myself where models will catwalk for me their latest collection. No definately far from that. The only shop where people actually know moi is the humble mini-mart nearby.
So we're not exactly rich, but we ain't exactly stuck in the poverty runt either, considering we have good meals, a roof over our heads, freedom to buy whatever we want... after a careful 2 weeks consideration (my mum calls that thrifty, i call it blatent miserly!). After all, we have seen those who are less fortunate than we are, and we know how to count our blessings.
As my family puts it - we are called the middle class. The poor souls who always suffer when inflation kicks in for no rhyme or reason. After all, for the poorer ones, things are already expensive anyway, so a price hike hardly affects their (almost empty) pockets. For the rich, they have money to crash and burn, thankyouverymuch you can keep the goddamn change. So who's the ones struggling here?
The unfortunate middle one lah!
But life's good... until you hear/meet people who are so filthy rich, you feel like an impoverished bastard for 3 seconds.
Maciam not bad enough, those people are around the same age as you.
Which makes you an impoverished bastard who's an utter failure and underachiever... for a miserable 3 seconds.
People who are in their early and mid twenties who have "arrived", zooming around in their Ferraris, BMWs, Benz.
People who are in their early and mid twenties owning private properties with a flurry of maids at their call and mercy. The poor maids are probably busy everyday washing Mr Richie Rich's endless collection of cars.
People who are in their early and mid twenties drawing an allowance of 20k and above. Which kinda makes me wonder how the hell they manage to spend that sum.
And heck, some of these people don't even need to work because their family can afford to feed an idle being without nagging.
While humble little moi, about the same age as all of them, is still slaving my ass off, toot-tooting in my dad's cutesy van, and dreaming of my Chloe Paddington, DSLR and kickass computer.
Yes, amongst the likes of them, i feel... cheap.
And its not exactly a cloud nine feeling.
No wonder people betray their souls for money and power.
Imagine having lunch with them:-
Richie Kid A: "My dad's a business tycoon. I'm the Marketing Director of his company"
Richie Kid B: ""I'm an entrepreneur."
Richie Kid C: "My dad owns a chain of property and hotel. I'm studying to be a lawyer."
Richie Kid D: "My mum's a banker. I'm graduating soon from the Gang Bank School soon."
Me: "My mum sells crayons. La Salle kicked me out when they saw my drawings."
I remember back in school, a classmate had a funny theory:-
"In this world, the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer."
Her theory was based on (don't laugh)... tennis.
"Imagine, the rich kid sucks at tennis but her parents can afford to hire the best coach to train her. She has a great chance of succeeding and earning MORE money. Imagine if you are poor. So what if you're good at tennis? You probably can't even afford the fucking racket. So at the end of the day, you'll still be poor."
Granted, there were loopholes in her argument. After all, we have heard of 'rags to riches' stories weaved to inspire the poor souls to greatness. No money never mind. Hard work and dedication is all you need. But its not like her theory did not have a spark of sense and logic.
Oh, and a best pal who is frequently rubbing shoulders with the atas people, gave me a tip:-
"You should hang out more at golf courses darhhhling. One of the rich kid I know is looking for a girlfriend." -sly wink-
That's it. Daphne, lets go shopping for golf gears! Off to the fairway we go!
