....... And they bite cos they are fierce.
....... And they are ugly.
...... And this is the belief of many ignorant Singaporeans.
Every Sunday, the usual gang will pop down to a local animal shelter to feed, clean, play etc with the resident dogs and cats. 90% of the kennel dogs are mongrels (or strays, or pariahs, whatever you call them) and many times, we will have to face stupid Singaporeans with stupid questions and stupid reactions.
1) "These are stray dogs. They will bite."
I've personally encountered the above. I remember clearly it was a father and son who had stepped into the premises and the little boy tried to pat one of the dogs there. When the father saw that, he said the above.
Then get the hell out Uncle Smartypants. I pity the son for having such a dumbass for a father. To hell with the adage, the older the wiser. This father is just the exact opposite.
All dogs can and will bite, regardless of size or breed. Even the cute fluffy Maltese or the little ditzy Chihuahua will snap under certain circumstances. If I'm gonna replace the resident dogs with a bunch of Golden Retrievers, I bet my last dollar that the moron won't say the words out at all.
2) "Mummy, I want that puppy cos it's so cute!"
Many kids are really bratty these days and its no thanks to their useless parents. Parents who can't even control their kids. Parents who think that catering to their kid's wails and demands mean showing love and affection.
Granted, its society's problem as well. We all know the usual jazz - high standards of living, both parents working, farking only child so lets fulfil the bugger's material needs.
i don't bloody care if you've bought enough toys for your little princess or little prince to suffocate himself/herself with but getting a pet just because they demanded it is just WRONG. It's a life for Christ's sakes and most kids are not able to handle the responsibility of having a dog or whatever pets for that matter. And really, some parents are airheaded enough to believe the empty and impulsive promises made by a child.
The poor pet will probably have to pay the price for such stupidity in the future when:
- the child finds a new amusement
- the puppy is no longer cute
- the dog tears up the house/pees on carpets/barks excessively etc.
- blah blah blah
3) "Do you guys have 3 mth old Malteses or Shihtzus for adoption? Or any small breeds? Your adoption is free right?"
A nice word would be unrealistic. But i think cheapo is more like it.
